Steamed Up On Steampunk Jewelry

As I was browsing the internet images quite a few years ago searching for an awesome wedding set that my then fiancee would be willing to wear, I stumbled upon an unknown genre of fashion I had never heard of: Steampunk.
So, I did what any normal person would have done: I "GOOGLED" it.
After spending countless hours scouring the internet on the jewelry making aspect of it. I came across a ring that we both agreed on and stated confidently, "I can do that!" We were both fascinated by the small cogs and bits of watch parts used in designing such unique pieces of beautiful jewelry and.....insects!

We came across outrageous images of spiders, beetles, and butterflies as well as many, MANY other handcrafted items all designed mostly from vintage watch parts.
Thus began my journey on designing a softer style of Steampunk jewelry.
During that tender time of discovering my personal brand, I was already familiar with some form of jewelry making techniques using mostly small seed beads and other larger mixtures of glass beads.
I had never dreamed that anyone would be interested in my jewelry until, one day, I wore a beaded necklace strung with large mixed red toned glass beads and a co-worker exclaimed in admiration over it. She couldn't get over the fact that I had designed it myself. That day, I received my first sales order to make three more in different colors for her.
From that moment, I realized people might actually be interested in my personal style of jewelry.
I began buying beading magazines to further my education on different jewelry making techniques. However, don't go crazy and get yourself roped into any subscriptions or buy EVERY issue on beading and jewelry making you can get your hands on because it would be a waste of money. It is better to do your research on the internet and reserve your purchases of magazines to just a select few that has a lot of different styles to try out. After searching through my mountain of jewelry making magazines... I have come to realize that most of the jewelry featured used a few basic techniques which can be applied to nearly every style of handcrafted jewelry.
I have been designing and selling my personal style of nature inspired Steampunk jewelry for the past 8 years , but, have yet to make my husband his wedding ring!
